November 1: Celebrate famous American authors like Ernest Hemingway and John Steinbeck on National Author’s Day or anytime you’re glamping in the area of two of America’s most treasured writers. To learn about the life of John Steinbeck, who wrote classics including Cannery Row and East of Eden, book a glamping tent at Marina Dunes RV Park and visit the National Steinbeck Center in nearby Salinas. Or find out some interesting things about the man who wrote the timeless novels like A Farewell to Arms and The Old Man and the Sea and explore the Hemingway Home and Museum in Key West (book a stay at either Encore Sunshine Key or Encore Fiesta Key).

November 5: It’s National Donut Day – on this day or any other day you prefer, check out the donuts at Fox’s Donut Den in Nashville (glamp at Natchez Trace Tiny House Village) or Donnie’s Donuts in Daytona, Florida (glamp at Encore Sunshine Holiday Daytona). Both were named to USA Today’s list of the 10 Best Donut Shops, coming in at #3 and #2, respectively.

November 10: I scream, you scream, we all scream because it’s National Sundae Day. According to Food & Wine, some of the best ice cream shops in the US include Molly Moon’s Ice Cream in Seattle; Fat Cat Creamery in Houston; and Screamin’ Mimi’s in Sebastopol, California. For nearby glamping, check out Tall Chief Campground (near Seattle); Thousand Trails Lake Conroe (near Houston); and Thousand Trails Russian River (near Sebastopol).

November 17: National Baklava Day was created to honor this tasty pastry of Greek and Turkish origins made with phyllo dough, chopped nuts, and honey. If you’re glamping down in the Florida Keys (Encore Fiesta Key or Encore Sunshine Key), head to The Baklava in Key West whose name says it all!

November 18: Mickey Mouse turns 96 this year! So, head out to your favorite Disney location and celebrate the life of the amazing Michael Theodore Mouse (yep, real name) who first appeared to the American public in the animated short, “Steamboat Willie” which premiered on this date in 1928. Choose to celebrate our favorite big-eared rodent at Florida’s Disney World (stay at Encore Tropical Palms in Kissimmee) or Disneyland (stay at Thousand Trails Wilderness Lakes).

Fall doesn’t have to mean the end of glamping season. In fact, there is something extremely cozy and comforting about a glamping adventure as the cool, crisp air of autumn sets in. Plan ahead and glamp while enjoying these fun fall events:

Leaf Peeping Trips: If you’re into the beautiful colors of fall, plan to hit some of the most beautiful areas of color in the country. New England is great for fall color so check into a cozy tiny house at Tuxbury Tiny House Village in New Hampshire and you have several options to leaf peep. Color driving options include the Kancamagus Highway, the Currier and Ives Scenic Byway or the Monadnock Region Loop. All have charming towns to visit along the way. Bar Harbor, Maine, and more specifically, Acadia National Park, is another great spot for seeing the fall palette. Book a stay at Narrows Too Camping Resort and enjoy a walk in the wooded wonderland of Acadia. Fall Festivals: Fall is great for festivals and a few to consider would be Oktoberfest across the country. Book a cozy tiny house at Leavenworth Tiny House Village and enjoy this spectacular event in Leavenworth, Washington that runs three weekends in October (October 4-5, October 11-12 and October 18-19). Billed as one of the country’s best, Oktoberfest Zinzinnati in Cincinnati is considered the largest Oktoberfest in the US. This year’s event will be held September 19-22. Book a glamping cottage or cabin at Thousand Trails Wilmington to be near all the fun. The skies over the Adirondack mountains will be full of hot air balloons from September 19-22 as the 50th Annual Adirondack Balloon Festival takes flight. The glamping cabins at Lake George Escape Campground are the perfect spot to stay if you want to enjoy this event that is less than 15 minutes away. How about celebrating all things cranberry? The world’s largest cranberry festival, Warrens Cranberry Festival, is scheduled for September 27-29 in Warren, Wisconsin which is a little over 70 miles from Lake of the Woods Campground and its great glamping cabins.

Ghost Tours: With Halloween looming, why not check out some of the best haunted tours in the US. According to housebeautiful.com, these are some of the best spookiest tours around: Florida’s Walking Ghost Tour of St. Augustine (book a stay at Encore Bulow in Flagler Beach); the Sisters Grimm Ghost Tour in San Antonio, Texas (stay at Thousand Trails Medina Lake); Spooked in Seattle Ghost Tours (stay at Tall Chief Campground); and Colonial Ghost Tours in Williamsburg, Virginia (stay at Thousand Trails Williamsburg). Of course, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania is said to be one of the most haunted places in the world so there are plenty of ghost tours to be found here (and maybe you don’t even need one to find the spirits lurking here) If you go, plan a stay at Drummer Boy Camping Resort and check into which of the many tours strike your fancy.

Mammoth Lakes, California: From an outdoor standpoint, isn’t most of California the best outdoor space? According to thediscoverer.com, Mammoth Lakes is one of the best thanks to the breathtaking scenery and the mountain and lake activities to enjoy here. From a biking standpoint, there are paved trails for road biking as well as a bit rougher terrain for the mountain biking enthusiast. Take a dip in Horseshoe Lake if you want to swim or try your hand at stand-up paddling here, a favorite spot for those that enjoy this way to take on the water. Other ways to explore this beautiful portion of the Sierra Nevada Range include horseback riding, rock climbing and hiking. Bend, Oregon: Bend is one of those four-season towns when it comes to the outdoors as there is always something to do outside here from skiing in winter to whitewater rafting in summer. One fun thing to do here in summer is to float the Deschutes River in a colorful innertube, a must for its perfect combination of fun and relaxation. Other fun on the Deschutes can include paddleboarding, kayaking, and the afore-mentioned thrilling whitewater rafting. If you’re looking for something unique, take the drive from Bend to Tamolitch Falls (about an hour) to see the Blue Pool. Once you’re here, it’s about a 2.5-mile easy hike on the Tamolitch Pool Trail to reach the unique turquoise waters. There’s also the Bend Ale Trail (bendaletrail.com) and the Bend Summer Festival, featuring live music, food and artisans, is set for July 13-14, for summer fun outdoors!

Leavenworth, Washington: Another four-season town thanks to the mountains and lakes here, a visit to Leavenworth should always include “outdoor time.” The bonus is that the quaint Bavarian-style town will make you feel like you’re having a European vacation! The Wenatchee River is one of the draws here with opportunities to paddleboard, whitewater raft and fish. Hiking options include Icicle Gorge Trail (4 miles) or the Alpine Lakes Wilderness offering 600 miles of trails. For a unique way to see the scenery, consider Leavenworth Ziplines (leavenworthziplines.com). You might also check out Village Art in the Park, a three-day vibrant outdoor art market held every weekend through mid-October.

Seattle, Washington: The pet-friendly cottage at Tall Chief sleeps four humans and is the perfect glamping spot to host a getaway with your pet. Dog-friendly outings when heading into Seattle can include the Washington Arboretum; Gas Works Park, a lovely grassy park built on the site of a former gas works plant that offers paved walking paths and great views of Lake Union; and leashed dogs are welcome to explore the iconic Pike Place Market. Bend, Oregon: Choose from a pet-friendly cabin, cottage, or yurt at Thousand Trails Bend-Sunriver and explore “the outdoor playground of the West” on four legs or two! Most of the Deschutes National Forest is dog-friendly. The North Fork Trail is shady thanks to all the Douglas firs and offers a shorter 4-mile loop as well as a 6.7-mile loop. Of course, you’ll find the Bend Ale Trail here – because Bend is also known as “Beer Town USA” and most of the breweries along the trail welcome pets. If you’re up for shopping for new gear for you and your pet, check out the Patagonia store in Bend which welcomes pets and has some good gear for them (and you), too!

Carmel, California: Carmel is considered one of the most dog-friendly cities in California so it’s no wonder dog-lovers and everyone’s favorite Golden Girl, Betty White, kept a beach house here for over 40 years. Rent the pet-friendly cottage at Marina Dunes and see what makes Carmel so dog-gone pet-friendly. Sip and stroll with your pet and enjoy some of the offerings from the Carmel-By-the-Sea Wine Walk which has plenty of pet-friendly tasting rooms or take to the sugary sand at Carmel Beach, which welcomes dogs. After beach time, check out the Fountain of Woof in Carmel Plaza and let your pet drink from the fountain for good and you can explore the shops here, too! Also, most restaurants that have patio seating welcome dogs as well.

The South Fork of the American River flows right through Thousand Trails Ponderosa, our beautiful glamping location situated in the foothills of the California Sierras. No need to head far from your glamping cabin here to enjoy the river. This river is great for white water rafting but can also serve as the spot for kayaking and swimming.

Head to Thousand Trails Bend-Sunriver, stay in a cool cabin, cottage, or an ultra-cool yurt, and frolic in Oregon’s Little Deschutes River that runs adjacent to this great glamping location. Fish, canoe, kayak or sign-up for a float trip down the river (floatationnation.com).

Washington State’s Wenatchee River is the place for fun if you’re planning a glamping getaway to Leavenworth Tiny House Village. An interesting perspective to learn about the river is to visit the Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery where Chinook salmon are raised (fws.gov/fish-hatchery/leavenworth). Or, hike the Icicle Ridge Trail, a 5.5 mile trail that runs along the river offering great views. The Wenatchee River area is considered one of the most scenic in the area.

Thousand Trails Verde Valley, our glamping spot in Sedona, Arizona, is actually set along the Verde River, which is one of two rivers in Arizona that are designated “Wild and Scenic.” Canoe, kayak, and swim in this gem of a river. Florida’s Kissimmee River forms part of the headwaters of the Everglades. Rent a colorful cottage at Encore Tropical Palms and get to know the Kissimmee River and the Everglades via airboat rides that offer glimpses of wildlife, including alligators and bald eagles. A restoration project began on the river in 1992 and was completed in 2021 that ultimately restored 40 miles of river and 25,000 acres of wetlands.


Come see what all the hum is about at our new Tiny House Container Village at Yukon Trails and explore the beautiful Baraboo River while glamping here. The Bararboo is considered an easy river on which to canoe or kayak. Nearby Devil’s Lake State Park is a great place to get a paddle trip started. Once blocked by dams, which have since been removed, the Baraboo River is one of the longest stretches of open river in the country.
